How to properly recycle electronics and batteries without just tossing them in the trash (22 views)

Has anyone dealt with recycling old electronics or batteries the right way? I never really thought about it until recently but apparently just throwing them out can cause real problems. Where do you even start?

I was looking into this not long ago after our office had a pile of old laptops and a bunch of mixed batteries sitting around with no clear plan for disposal. At first I assumed it was complicated or expensive but it turned out there are services that handle pretty much everything including battery recycling sorted by chemistry type which apparently matters quite a bit depending on local regulations. What helped me most was finding a service that clearly explained each step of the process and didn't leave anything vague about compliance or what actually happens to the equipment. You can check here for a general sense of what a structured recycling service looks like in terms of scope and documentation.

Beyond batteries they also covered things like hard drive destruction on site and full data center decommissioning which was relevant for us since we had some storage units that needed proper data sanitization before disposal. The fact that everything was described with actual standards rather than vague promises made it easier to trust the process.

For anyone starting out I'd say the main thing to look for is whether the service breaks down what they handle and how not just a general claim that they recycle things responsibly.
